Nutrition Class

|
Today is the day I've been waiting for...the last day of PREP and the Nutrition Class! I had the usual boiled eggs, oranges and ground beef today and thankfully the time flew by and by the time I knew it, it was time for my class.

Overall, the class was very informative. I received a lot of information on what to eat. It breaks down to the following daily:
2 proteins
2 starches
2 fruits
4 vegetables
1 fat
2 S4L supplements (high protein snacks)

I'll also be taking the following pills daily:
1 metabolizer 30 min before each meal
1 carb blocker 30 min before each meal
1 multi vitamin
1 fish oil before 30 min every meal and 6 before I go to bed (this is the only one I found excessive)

I have to increase the metabolizer and carb blocker to 2 before each meal after Day 3 on my diet, but that's really the only change. They also gave me recipes to look at which looked pretty good. I ended up leaving with a folder full of information. This will make for good stuff to look over later.

At the end of the nutrition class they determine how much of everything you will need to get through your weight loss and offer you a 30% discount on all of it if you buy it now. My grand total was over $1,300!! Needless to say, I smiled and said "no thank you".

I was confused though because I thought I would get 30% off whatever I purchased that day. I said I was willing to spend $75 (thinking I would get $22.50 off with the discount). It didn't work that way though and they told me I had to spend over $350 to get the discount. I ended up getting their "special" 5 supplements for $75. I wasn't smart enough to do the math right there or else I would have realized it was just $1 off per box! Geez, thanks S4L for saving me $5 dollars. In the future I will definitely be looking for similar items instead of buying these. For my $75 I left with peanut butter bars, hot chocolate mix, strawberry jello, wildberry drink mix and caramel crunch.

Despite the shopping experience though, everyone at the center was very helpful. I am anxious and eager to get started and the second part of this diet. I hope I can do it!

Totally OVER the Prep Phase

|
All the questions I asked got a big fat NO from my consultant at S4L. They only thing they thought about was me eating the protein bar. They told me if I had to cheat to eat the protein bar. I guess I'll do that if I get desperate.

Day 2 consisted of more streak, boiled eggs and oranges. I also had some shrimp and ground beef. I am way over beef though. I even had to mix some spaghetti sauce in it to drink it which I justified because it's mainly tomatoes and I'm allowed all the veggies I want right? I also only put a small spoonful in nothing too drastic. The Boost drink was a lot better today though! 24 ounces of water will make a big difference! I definitely cannot wait to begin the more "normal" portion of this diet though!

Prep Phase: Day 1

|
So today wasn't too awful. I had my two boiled eggs and half an orange for breakfast. I also took my 1 multi-vitamin and 6 fish oils for the day. After that, I decided to try the thermo boost. The consultants at Slim 4 Life told me this would give me a ton of energy. They were right-it just wasn't too tasty though. I had the lime flavor, maybe it would have been better if I mixed it with more water. I'll try that on Day 2.

For lunch I had top sirloin steak. I'm actually not a huge fan of beef unless it's served with fatty sides or in a hamburger. So lunch wasn't too great. It might have been because I didn't add enough salt. I love salt. I actually think I might struggle a bit on the limited salt intake during this diet. 1/4 tablespoon a day...not liking that too much. Add in that it's reduced sodium salt and that really puts a damper on things.

For dinner I had some rotisserie chicken. This was good. I also had a small salad and some fat free ranch. Not too bad either. I finished off with a half orange. I'm not going to lie, even though I was satisfied with the food I had for the day I wanted something sweet...DESPERATELY. I made it through though and I was happy to know at the end of the day I followed my diet. Even if it was just one day out of 16 weeks.

I meet with my Slim 4 Life consultant tomorrow. I have some questions for her regarding the Prep phase. My hope is that at least one of these answers is answered with a yes.

1. Can I eat peanut butter during the prep phase (high protein...makes sense right?)
2. Can I eat sugar free jello?
3. Can I eat one of the high protein candy bars given to me in my starter pack?

I guess even if they are all No's I can live. It's only 3 days and I'm done with 1, can't be too bad right?

The Consultation

|
I met in for my Slim 4 Life Consultation knowing this was going to cost me a good chuck of change. My friend had already told me to expect to pay $500 if I decided to sign up. When I went in they told me they were doing a $1 per pound special. After listening to a good 30 minute long presenation that covered a brief introduction on how the diet worked (4 phases: Prep, Weight Loss, Stabilization and Maintenance) and how long it would take me to get to my goal weight (they say to estimate a 3-5lb weight loss per week) we got into numbers. My start up cost was $413. This included my starter pack and the 16 week program that includes me going in 3-5 times a week for check-ins. I decided to do it. My consultant told me if I followed the diet she promised me I would be at 137 by Thanksgiving. She said it with such a determination that I was filled with the confidence that I could do this. It sounds a little strange, but the thought of weighing 137 almost made me tear up during our meeting. I cannot remember ever weighing this much though (at least not since high school) and they way we were talking about it made it seem like it would really happen. The consultant I met with was very motivating and told me about her own weight loss journey. Needless to say, I was convinced and my starter pack included:

Vita Life (a daily multi vitamin 30 tablets)
Ultra Fats (fish oil 120 capsules)
Carb Blocker (90 tablets)
Uri Slim (for water release 120 capsules)
Cleansing Herbs Tea Bags (20 tea bags)
Hebal-Slim Metabolizer (180 capsules)
My choice of a 7 pack protien candy bar (I chose butter pecan bar)
My choice of a 7 pack drink mix (I chose wildberry passion)
My choice of a 14 pack energy powder mix (I chose lemon lime flavor)
A 30% off coupon for items at my nutrition class
Another bottle was included too, but I don't have it yet because it's on back order. Once I have it I'll post the name.

I was also equipped with my food options for the first 3 days of the diet (the Preperation Phase). I start the Prep Phase on 8/7/2011 and end on 8/9/2011. It's basically a high protien 3 day diet, let's hope it goes well!

It's Time for a CHANGE

|
I can remember doing my Mom's step aerobics videos in junior high every summer hoping that I would lose a lot of weight so when I went back to school everyone would be like "WOW". Never happened, I am sure I lost a few pounds every summer (I never weighed myself because we didn't have a scale at home) but I didn't realize that there was a nutrition component to losing weight at age 13. I also wasn't very dedicated.

In College, I was old enough to understand if you eat right and exercise you will lose weight. I did a pretty good job of dropping about 25 pounds during this time but once I graduated and got married the weight slowly but surely came back.

Now, for the past few years I've been working out and trying to eat right but I am a Monday through Thursday good eater and exerciser. Once the weekend comes...I'm done. With the excitement of the weekend, I forget the diet and the exercise. I also tend to focus all of our weekend activities around eating out and happy hours.

So, I am doing something drastic. I am investing a good amount of money into a diet that worked for one of my coworkers. I am hoping to lose 50lbs by Thanksgiving...yes that's 50 lbs in about 4 months. It sounds crazy, but seemed very realistic to my weight loss consultant. I've read a lot of mixed reviews about my choice diet, Slim 4 Life, but I've also read a lot of success stories too. What I did not find was a detailed description of how this diet worked for someone and what were the true daily struggles they found by doing it. So, I've decided I would be that person. I hope that my posts will help motivate you and help you get started on your weight loss journey (whether you choose Slim 4 Life as your path, or something else). Here's to hoping a big CHANGE is on the horizon!
